What is a focus group?

A focus group is a roundtable discussion of usually 8-10 individuals with some shared characteristics. Focus groups are led by a professional moderator, who keeps the discussion on topic. As you'll find focus groups are interactive in nature with each person afforded the opportunity to share their opinions, viewpoints and experiences.

Who pays for the focus group?

Typically, large corporations sponsor focus groups. They usually want to hear the general public or their current customers' opinions when developing or improving their products, services, and advertising. The comments, feedback and ideas expressed during the focus group are the property of the client. They will then be used to make decisions regarding the design and marketing of the product or service.

What's in it for me?

Aside from the cash stipend you will receive for your time and effort in the focus group, you can take pleasure in knowing that your input could help launch a successful new television program or help pharmacists better serve their customers. Further, you could meet some people who share your opinions and concerns, collaborate in a fun environment and learn about new product ideas before they have been introduced to the public.

Why do you need to know all of my personal information?

The more information you tell us about yourself, the quicker we can find out if you may qualify for participation in one of our focus groups. Your background has a lot to do with buying decisions. Consequently, we ask questions about your background to find focus groups for which you may qualify. The criteria for participation vary from focus group to focus group. Sometimes product usage is paramount, while in others, household size is most important to the research.  However, there is certain information you should never be asked to disclose, such as sensitive financial information.  While we may ask about purchasing habits, who you do your banking with or who your credit card issuer is, we would never ask for identifiable account information.

Baltimore Research Privacy Policy

By retaining the services of "Baltimore Research", any research buyer agrees to abide by and is held accountable for any privacy policies of "Baltimore Research".

Baltimore Research is an opinion and marketing research firm that is committed to maintaining the privacy and security of personal information. As a member of the Marketing Research Association (MRA), the professional association of opinion and marketing research companies, Baltimore Research adheres to the mandated MRA code of Standards and Ethics for Survey Research. This code includes requirements for protection of personal information and respondent identifiable information.
All of your responses will be kept strictly confidential and only reported in the aggregate unless otherwise evident within the survey or research session. If we indicate that personal information may be included in the research findings, we ensure that the information is treated with the strictest of confidence. We will not mislead a participant regarding the nature of the research or how the information will be used. Please see the following section, "Disclosure of Personal Information".

Your personal information will not be sold or traded to any other individual or company without your consent. We do not conduct sales or direct marketing, nor do we provide personal information to be used for direct contact sales or marketing purposes. Baltimore Research Participant Database

Baltimore Research maintains a participant database for the purpose of inviting respondents to participate in research activities. Registration into this database is available through a link on Baltimore Research website. An invitation to participate in future research activities may also be distributed through other means. Information provided by participants in the registration process of the database is voluntary and is used for the purpose of identifying eligibility for participation in future research activities. Follow up questions may be necessary to qualify a respondent for specific research studies.

Disclosure of Personal Information

Baltimore Research limits the personally identifiable information shared with clients to that which is essential to the research project. Unless necessary for pre-research project assignments, planned recalls previously agreed to by respondents, or validation purposes, last names, phone numbers and addresses are not shared with clients or any other third party.

Personal information may also be disclosed when a survey instrument clearly states that the information will be disclosed, or when a participant makes a request during a survey or research session that can only be fulfilled by disclosing such information, or for customer satisfaction research where the expressed, expected result of all parties is that the client or client’s agent will receive the information for follow up.

At no time during your visit to our facility should you be asked for personal contact information such as phone number, email, address or your last name by anyone other than the staff member at the front desk. We encourage you not to provide such information. Any personal information, such as full name, mailing address, email address and phone number that is privately or publicly disclosed in a focus group or personal interview to any research representative outside this organization is provided on a voluntary basis and is not regulated by this privacy policy.

Under certain circumstances, Baltimore Research may be required or permitted by law or court orders to collect, use, and/or disclose personal information; notice may not be required.

In the event of a sale, merger, liquidation, dissolution, reorganization or acquisition of Baltimore research, the acquiring party would agree to be bound by the terms of the Baltimore Research Privacy Policy before any information would be transferred.
